Estonian kayak manufacturer becomes one of Europe’s top three makers11.09.2013, 09:42
Tahe Kayaks that manufacturers canoes and kayaks has acquired French Egalis, Europe’s leading manufacturer of kayaks, for less than EUR 4m, writes Äripäev.
The acquisition means that Tahe Kayaks is now among Europe’s three largest makers.
According to Marek and Janek Pohla, owners of Tahe Kayaks, the deal will increase company’s revenue by an estimated 40%.
They say that the current plant of Egalis in France will not be transferred to Estonia because it is mainly robotics and would not give any notably cost savings. At present Tahe Kayaks has manufacturing facilities in Viimsi and Tartu. “Also, France is a very big market,” they said. Brothers say their objective is to become Europe’s market leader over the next two years.
Tahe Kayaks that was founded in 1989 sells almost all its production abroad and supplies about 200 retailers in 35 countries. Main export countries are Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
