Estonian trade deficit narrowed in September
09.11.2011, 16:06Estonia's merchandise trade deficit decreased markedly in September, data released by Statistics Estonia showed Wednesday.
The trade deficit declined to EUR 4.3 million in September from EUR 6.4 million a year earlier. The latest figure was the lowest recorded so far this year. In August, the trade balance was a deficit of EUR 53.3 million.
Export of goods increased 30 percent annually to EUR 1.1 billion in September. Month-on-month, dispatches rose 6 percent.
Imports grew 29 percent from last year to EUR 1.1 billion during the month. Compared to August, the value of imports edged up 1 percent. In the January-September period, the trade balance was a deficit of EUR 459 billion, unchanged from the same period last year. The value of shipments rose 47 percent annually during the nine-month period, while imports moved up 44 percent.
