Estonian architects to design Marriott Hotel in Riga

Two Estonian architects Indrek Allmann and Joel Kopli have won an international architectural contest in Riga, according to newspaper reports.

The international competition for a new 180-room hotel in Riga Old Town was organised by hotel operator Marriott International in co-operation with the Latvian Association of Architects.

The total cost of the project will be 35 million euros and the construction works should to start next year.

This is the first known case where Estonian architects win an international architectural contest abroad. The contest attracted 17 entries from architectural bureaus in three countries.

The new Mariott Hotel Riga will be located in the area between the streets of Minsterejas, Kungu and Pasta, right at the gateway to the Old Town.

Mariott International operates a chain of 3,457 hotels all over the world with a total capacity of 603,000 rooms.
