Baltic Taxi, a taxi company in which SIA Baltijas Aviācijas sistēmas (Baltic Aviation Systems, BAS) owns 70% and Janis Naglis owns 30%, has announced its intention to expand outside Latvia, most likely into Estonia, Lithuania and Ukraine.
Latvian news portal bb.lv quoted Baltic Taxi CEO Janis Naglis saying that although no decision had been made on the subject, active preparations for expansion were going on.
Naglis said that every market had its benefits and disadvantages, and the company was trying to adapt to them. "For instance, the operations of Baltic Taxi could be restricted by the fact that there was a hidden taxi monopoly in the Tallinn Passenger Port," he said, adding that in its new markets Baltic Taxi plans to focus on corporate customers.
One of the competitors of Baltic Taxi in Tallinn will be Tallink Takso, a taxi company that belongs to owners of Tallink. It was launched in August 2008 and has a fleet of about 100 cars.
