Long-term overdue loans up slightly in December

The amount of loans overdue more than 60 days in Estonia's banking system rose slightly to 6.4% of the total loan portfolio in December from November's 6.3%, the Estonian central bank said today.

The total loan portfolio at the end of November was 244 billion kroons which is 6.4% less than in the same period a year ago, and down from 245.8 billion kroons in the previous month.

The Estonian central bank has forecast that loans overdue more than 60 days will increase to 8% of the total loan portfolio in the first half of 2010.

Almost all mortgage loans in Estonia are issued in euros.
