Estonia's largest fuel retailer Statoil increased its petrol price by 50 cents and diesel price by 65 cents yesterday evening.

Starting from today, petrol 95 will cost 16.65 a litre in Statoil's manned petrol stations. In Statoil's unmanned petrol stations the price will be 15 cents cheaper.

Diesel will cost 16.55 and 16.30 kroons a litre, respectively.

The company said that it was forced to increase retail price in connection with the higher motor fuel excise duty that entered into force on January 1. Moreover, the fee for keeping liquid fuel reserve increased.

Statoil said that in the last two weeks of December, price of diesel fuel on world markets increased 9%.

Statoil has said earlier that since Estonia has the higher excise duty on diesel fuel that most neighbouring countries, it expects its sales of diesel to fall.
