Shopping centres try to keep rent at the same level

Viru Keskus says that lowering rent is rare, Äripäev reports.
Viru Keskus lowered rent up to 10 pct.
“In the beginning of the year they came to say they want lower rent since the
prices have gone cheaper elsewhere as well,” Ants Vasar, member of Viru Keskus’
management board said.
He added that discount is extremely rare for a reputable shopping centre and
contract was signed with a few shops.
Allan Remmelkoor, the CEO of Kristiine shopping centre said that paying the
rent in time doesn’t only depend on the economy, but also entrepreneurs.
“Good payers pay on time in the good and bad times, who are goofs in the good
times continue like that,” he said.
Järve keskus says 5 pct of tenants owe money.
“There are debtors. We try to reach agreement and find solutions, but we find
new store on the area, if needed,” Helen Saks, marketing manager of Järve Keskus
said.
Stores have tried to get lower rent in Tartu Lõunakeskus, but the number of
such stores isn’t remarkable, Jaan Lott, the member of Lõunakeskus’ management
board said. Some stores delay with payments, one has bankrupted.
Last week Blend closed its store in Tasku shopping centre, Tartu. Ain
Tammvere, member of management board of Estiko which manages the centre said
that the shopping centre has some debtors, but agreements are sought.
“We’ve lowered prices by about twenty percent for some clients,” Tammvere
said.
