Trade Unions: We’ll see what we do to raise minimum salary
31.12.2008, 17:17 Estonian Central Union of Trade Unions
decided to ask its member at extraordinary meeting in January, which actions
they’re ready to make to raise minimum salary, aripaev.ee reports.
„We can’t agree with Employers Confederation council’s opinion not to raise
minimum wage next year. That’s why we turn to our members in January, to see
what they’re ready to do to reach that agreement,“ Harri Taliga, head of Central
Union of Trade Unions said.
„I can’t forecast from coffee-ground which
proposals come and what comes out of them,“ Taliga said.
Taliga noted that the higher minimum wage is not only a question for those
who earn it, but for the whole society. Higher minimum wage helps the state to
increase tax incomes for lessening opportunities to pay under the table.
He estimated that the negotiations with the Employers Confederationa may
continue in February, after this year’s Q4 economic indexes have been published.
